Hardcore Sucks

Rap sucks too.

New Jersey, on the other hand, does not. It's almost disgusting how many good things are coming out of that state in 2007. Maybe it's disgusting how many terrible things are coming out of everywhere else. Rest of the world: Step your game up. Thanks.

First up on the list of things that rule from New Jersey is Hellhole. Ever since Ryan O'Connor found a life and quit posting on the B9er, this has been your best way to get your ROC fix. Luckily their killer selftitled record doesn't suffer from Poison Fingers Syndrome. It just slays nonstop with some of the hardest core you can get slapped in the face with. The bass sound on this thing is fucking ridiculous. They just posted the art for their next record on Don Giovanni Records, and it's got me totally stoked for what's coming next.

Next, For Science put out not just one, but fucking TWO of the best records to come out this year. Pope on a pogo stick, they're good. Somehow I managed to not care about this band until the art for the Way Out of Control EP showed up on the internet, and it totally sucked me in. The inside layout is great too. An around excellent release that would put most bands to shame, and yet somehow that wasn't enough. Their LP (out soon in vinyl form on Don G) is probably the best record to come out this year. It's mindblowing how good this band is. I'd go as far as saying that I don't like you if you don't like this record. It's that good. Fuck you if you don't like it. This MRR review is awesome though.

"FOR SCIENCE - "Tomorrow's Just Another Day"CD
The press release attached with Tomorrow's Just
Another Day describes a "frantic sound" with "spastic
nervous energy" and talks of "screams and cuts." In
actuality, this is white-bread modern day pop music—
the kind that's playing in SUVs driven by the children of
soccer moms. Tomorrow's Just Another Day does not
contain a note of music that is frantic, spastic, or the
least bit interesting. For some reason, FOR SCIENCE
name-drops POISON IDEA in the thanks list, so I guess
they are aware of "frantic" music. According to the press
release, they have a marketing firm backing them up and
a media license with MTV, VH1, ESPN, and the Fuel
Network. Wow, way to go boys. I'm sure you have a
long life ahead of you playing Clear Channel-sponsored
sock hops. (CI)

Oh yeah, the Ergs! put out a handfull of great records this year too, but you already knew that. And anyone that hasn't heard The Gaslight Anthem's "Sink or Swim" album needs to jump on that shit yesterday. More on that later.

This is what I do on Saturday nights.

So I'm wasting time alone in the house on a Saturday night as a 17 year old that doesn't drive by just screwing around on the internet, because really, the fuck else am I supposed to do? Anyway, I was catching up with the Expert Whiteboy Analysis best rap songs list when I decided to click on to the EWA blog itself. And you know what I found?

Fucking Inframan.

http://xpertwhiteboyz.blogspot.com/2007/05/man-beyond-bionics.html

I was maybe eight when my dad came home one day with this tape and I must've watched that thing like fifity times before I lost the tape in a tornado in 03. Ever since then, I've been looking all over the internet trying to find out about it because I remember it ruling, but could never find anything (probably because for the last 9 years I thought it was called "Infrared Man." Whoops.)

What matters is this is like the best movie ever. I've been reading this and it's just bringing back a flood of memories of wanting to be in this movie. I'm so stoked to finally remember just what it was.

So yeah. This is what I do on Saturday nights.

On another movie related note, last night I saw Ratatouille, and it was about the best looking thing I've ever seen. There's a scene around a sewer and it's mind blowing how great it looks. It's also flat out a great movie. I don't think this often, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy it as soon as it come out.

And on another movie thing, last night/ this morning, I watched Crash (1996) on IFC. Sometime around 98 I asked my parents about X-rated or NC-17 movies and they mentioned seeing this. They just said it was about car wrecks. Cool. I've waited almost ten years to see this.

And I'm so fucking angry that my parents didn't tell me how fucking bad it is. By far, the worst movie I've ever seen, even beating out Hail Caesar, which I didn't think it'd be possible to be worse than. Ugh.

So....

As of late, I'd say my lack of posts involve not only laziness, but just a general lack of real things that actually interest me. For the most part, hardocore, hip-hop, books, TV, everything have just been totally uninteresting (well, except Adventures in Hollyhood, and I guess it falls under two of those). The summer started and I've found myself just wasting away.

Lucky for me (and I guess the rest of the world), things are finally starting to look up.

First off, the new Weezy mixtape leaked. And you know what? It's got some real good parts on it. I'll probably listen to this a lot more than I did anything else. Thanks to mikeford for pointing me in the right way.

I went and upped two of my favorite songs off of it at this point. So if you don't feel like getting the whole thing, look into these.

Did It Before (Produced By Kanye West

Something You Forgot

Next up, the new Fabolous leaked. Click that mikeford link up there and look around for his kinda review. I think it's a little better than he does, but whatever.

As for the new Pharoahe Monch, it's a little here and there. I'm somewhere between Bol and Noz on this one.

Like everyone else, I'm completely into the new UGK video with Outkast.

On the hardcore side of things.... Well, the new Death Before Dishonor's pretty good. That new Bad Brains record is crazy, but I haven't found myself listening to it lately. Hopefully something will pop up that I care about soon.

On another note, the new Pokemon rules. 21 hours deep since Friday night. I might have a problem.

Whoa, fuck

After thinking about it forever, I'm actually updating this thing. Weird. As of late I've thought of a bunch of shit I'd throw on here, but just never got around to it. So I guess I'll just kick this off with a post I've been keeping in my head for about a month now.

A week ago today, I was happily sitting here in pain because the night before I saw the Little Rock show of the Hatebreed/Terror/who cares tour. It took $20 to see it, but it was way worth it. I'd never seen Hatebreed as I had missed out the opportunity to see them in 03 with Slayer, and it'd been two years since I saw Terror in Memphis with MLIW and Comeback Kid. That was pretty fun.  The place almost completely cleared out after Terror played, leaving CBK to play to about 50 people that cared. Here's some pictures of the Terror set. It ruled and I think my arm is prominently displayed in one of them.

Anyway, the show last week is by far some of the most fun I've had in forever.
I had never been to the venue since nothing I ever care about gets booked there.
I wanted to see Say Anything there once, I think. The venue though had this weird
levels thing going on, which made for awesome dive potential.

Unfortunately for me, it also made for me landing on my face.

So awesome.

When it comes down to it though, there's probably not a better way I'd want
to spend $20 than seeing Terror. Probably the most fun you can have if you're
not watching George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars.

I did some hunting and saved some Terror videos from youtube that I decided ruled. Have fun.

The Obligatory Best of List

For the most part, I found 2006 to be pretty underwhelming. There's a lot of stuff I never got around to doing and listening to. I probably won't do it in 07 either. But here's what I think ruled in no particular order.

Time to Kill Space - Celebrity Murders
Yeah, it came out in 05, but the vinyl version came out last year, and that's what matters.

DEATHCYCLE - DEATHCYCLE
Best band ever. Or something. Hard. Sounds like it smells terrible, so it obviously rules.

Crook By Da Book: The Fed Story - Project Pat
This probably actually sucks a lot, but I don't care. I'd listen to the dude rap the phonebook. Tell Tell Tell is one of the best songs of the year.

Guitar Hero II
Fuck the orange button.

The End of Communication - Dead City
Hardest record to come out in forever. Goddamned is some serious shit. Aversion Online has a much better review.

Clerks II
Not as good as the first, but most things aren't as good as that movie. Still hilarious. Significantly less funny when I rewatched it, but apparently the documentary stuff or whatever is pretty good. I'll find out eventually.

Bane/Modern Life Is War/This Is Hell/Outbreak
I finally saw Bane. It was cool. MLIW played a bunch of songs from Witness and weren't as good as last year, but still better than most. This Is Hell didn't cover 108. Outbreak did what I assume they always do, which I assume is awesome.

Heaven's Pregnant Teens - Some Girls
Best way to irritate yourself and others. I think this band keeps getting better as time goes on.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
It's pretty fun. Might be better than OoT. Probably not. Maybe.

Kingdom Come - Jay-Z
Hov rapping about his good credit and not buying rims is still better than everybody else.

Substance - Betrayed
LOVED the 7". This isn't as good as that, but it's still great. Not as much Verbal Assault influence as I had hoped, but whatever. Sounds cool if you turn it up. Not so cool at low volumes.

Hell Hath No Fury - Clipse
Duh. Worth the wait. Perfect record. Nightmares has definitely grown on me, and isn't nearly as disappointing as I originally though.

There's a lot more stuff, but I'm pretty tired of this list right about now. Quick mentions to stuff from This Is Hell, Invade, Lil Wayne, Cat Power, Ghostface Killah, Crime In Stereo, Raekwon, whatever. Fuck 2006.

Just Lazy Enough to Come Back

Not so much a blog entry as much as it's random thoughts that I feel like documenting.

1) Kingdom Come rules. So much. I hate probably hate you if you don't like this album.
2) This shirt is fucking epic. WOW

3) The DEATHCYCLE LP is one of the best things released this year (century? ever?)
4) Guitar Hero II will be the death of me
